Surprising! There is absolutely nothing sexy about the way that people perform the Bach chaconne. Alex Ross goes on to detail the ways that composers like Bach combine the groove of repetitive dance forms with the descending bass lines from laments to make a romantic form of sadness.

Logic Pro X has a number of built-in templates based on genre which can be a helpful starting point but always feel free to customize to your own needs. As you continue working on different projects, you’ll naturally start making personalized templates to prep for sessions. And although each of which may require different demands in terms of instruments, effects, or amounts of inputs, you’ll be starting from a higher place than the ground.

Let’s say that you’re mixing a project and it’s arrived to you with phase issues built-in. You have a natural snare recording, but when you turn up the accompanying trigger track, it sounds awful. Usually it’s the above comb-filtering and/or a disturbing lack of low end. You can start by flipping the phase button, and see if that gets you where you need to be. Alternatively, you can zoom in on the waveforms and see what’s up.

The basic awkwardness of harmonics-based tuning systems has caused musicians a lot of confusion and irritation over the years. Depending on your starting pitch, some intervals can be perfectly in tune, but others can’t be. And the more harmonically complex you want your music to be, the worse the tuning issues are going to get.

What makes the djembe stand out is a) its uniquely wide range of tones and timbres, and b) its lore. That’s right — djembes are steeped in lore and tradition. Djembe players are even given a special name, called a djembefola, while a solo is called a djembekan. Nobody is quite certain where the name djembe came from, but the instrument is thought to be between 400 and 800 years old and the Bamana people of Mali hold that its name comes from their saying, “Anke dje, anke be” — which translates to “everyone gather together in peace”.

Female hip hop artists 2018

Helene Berg knew of her husband’s love for Fuchs-Robettin, and it seems likely her attempts to scuttle the completion of Lulu were at least in part motivated by this. She died in 1976.

Jhoni Jackson is an Atlanta-born writer based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She covers Latinx music and culture for Remezcla, runs a monthly queer party, and also organizes a recurring pop-up feminist bazaar. Until last year, she co-owned a mid-size venue; right now, she’s plotting a new venture. Follow her on Twitter for links to her stories or on Instagram for (mostly) pictures of her cats.

Here are seven of the most common mistakes I see young producers make when adding reverb into their mixes, and how to prevent yourself from making them.

If a piece of gear isn’t working and there’s no clear path to get it functioning again, it’s already a burden. Repairing gear can be difficult and expensive. If the situation is hopeless you might be better off to cut your losses. Get it fixed or get it out the door!

Whatever it is, modern hip-hop is dominated by 808s. We use the term loosely, but 808s reference the historic long bass drum sound first made popular by Roland’s TR-808 drum machine. In today’s production world, it’s hard to find a big hip-hop hit without an 808 or sub bass. These trunk-rattling frequencies are a crucial part of the genre.
